“Pie a Professor” Raises Awareness (and Whipped Cream!) for Psi Chi

Laura Chaparro Castellanos pies Dr. John CartonOglethorpe’s chapter of Psi Chi, a national honor society in psychology, recently came up with a unique way to recruit new members and raise funds for future events: by giving students the opportunity to put a pie in the face of psychology professors and the club’s leadership!

Approximately twenty pies were pushed into the faces of OU psychology professors Dr. John Carton and Dr. Justin Wise, as well as Psi Chi president Katy Moody and Vice President Josh Maley. Funds raised will help pay for a group of psychology students and faculty to present their research at the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference in the spring, as they have in years past

Katy said the event “was a great way to talk and crack up with our professors outside of the classroom. We all had a blast!” She says that Psi Chi has grown by “leaps and bounds” since last year and she hopes that events like these will help the club continue to grow. “I joined Psi Chi to be around people who were interested in the same topics as I am. The members are all passionate about and dedicated to their studies.” Katy added.

Laura Castellanos (pictured pieing Dr. Carton above) says that being a member of Psi Chi has given her the opportunity “to work alongside people who love psychology as much as I do and who are devoted to enhancing the experience of all psychology majors at Oglethorpe.”
